“During a holiday, some of my fellow volunteers and I planned a sort of party for the kids. We brought popcorn and some cookies, balloons, and a speaker to play music. I bought a big sheet and painted a tree trunk and flower stems on it and each kid put a green hand print as a leaf on the tree to create their “family tree” and then they were able to use other colors to make flower petals and butterfly wings with their hand prints. The day itself was one of my favorites, but I remember vividly that when we handed out the cookies to the younger kids, they ran over to the older kids to share with them, without hesitation. One of the girls even gave her whole cookie as a second helping to her younger sibling.”
